CAT 2013 Analysis: CAT 2013 has started from Wednesday, October 16, 2013. On the basis of the first test, we are providing you the CAT 2013 Analysis as stated by the experts. Vinayak Kudva, Product Head, IMS Learning mentioned that the CAT 2013 exam pattern has been depicted exactly in the same way and there were no surprises in the exam. "The difficulty level of the first CAT 2013 exam was moderate to tough. There were no surprises or unexpected turns in the exam," Kudva said.

Latest: CAT 2014 has been announced by IIM Indore. Application process starts from August 6.

Arks Srinivas, Founder Chairman, VistaMind also mentioned that there were no change in the CAT 2013 pattern and as expected, followed the previous years' trend. However, there was a change which he had observed, "In the Quantitative Ability section, there were more questions from Pure Mathematics and Algebra than Arithmetic. This made the Quantitative Ability section tougher than the rest of the sections," he said.

We will provide you the CAT 2013 Analysis after few slots of the exam are over. We give you the snapshot of past year’s CAT analysis so you have the idea about the exam which is also replicated in the CAT 2013 exam.

CAT 2013 will have two sections, Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation and Verbal Ability & Logical Reasoning. The duration of the exam is 140 minutes. Each section will have 30 questions, making the total number of questions 60.

The CAT analysis in a nutshell can be seen in the following table:

Now let us have a look at the section wise analysis of last year’s CAT exam.

CAT-Pathfinder

Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation

The Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation or QA & DI section had 30 questions to be solved in 70 minutes. The difficulty level of the section was tough. There were 21 questions in the QA area and 9 questions in the DI area. The questions appeared from common topics which are as follows:

  • Number System

  • Algebra

  • Geometry

  • Modern Math

  • Mensuration

The maximum questions were on Algebra followed by Geometry and Mensuration, Arithmetic and Number System.

The Data Interpretation questions came in sets of 3. The DI questions were also tough and calculation intensive. The DI section questions were on the following topics:

  • Bar Graphs

  • Pie Charts

  • Tables

  • Combination of Graphs

There were no questions on Data Sufficiency.

Verbal Ability & Logical Reasoning

There were 30 questions in the VA & LR section. The VA part was a mix of Reading Comprehension and English Usage. The RC passages were of moderate difficulty level. Out of 3 RC passages, 1 was on the tougher side. The questions from English Usage part were on the following topics:

  • Sentence Correction

  • Para Jumble

  • Para Completion

  • Fill in the blanks

  • Word Usage

  • Odd Sentence Out

The difficulty level of the above mentioned topics were of easy to moderate difficulty level.

The LR questions appeared in sets of 3, similar to the DI questions. The difficulty level of this part of the CAT exam was moderate. The LR questions came on the following topics”

  • Data Arrangement

  • Seating Arrangement

  • Logic based puzzles

According to experts, the possible attempts in the CAT paper could be 40 to 45 out of 60.

CAT 2013 exam will be taken by 1.95 lakh candidates who have registered for the exam.
