Excerpts from the chat:
Ragini: Apart from CAT, does MDI accept any other exam scores for PGPM?
Dr. Amit Kapoor: MDI shortlists students on the basis of CAT scores. If you have taken CAT 2012, you can apply to MDI.
Aakash Aggarwal: Please provide me some information on Executive MBA at MDI.
Dr. Amit Kapoor: We have three programs that look at working executives at the MBA level. They are NMP (National Management Program), Post Graduate Program in Energy Management and Part Time PGPM. The Part Time MBA program though the classes happen through the week in the evening and the weekends.
Aakash Aggarwal: What are the eligibility criteria for these programs?
Dr. Amit Kapoor: Admission in part time program is for people with minimum of three years of work experience.
Gaurav Dubey: I am science graduate passed in 2005. I want to do management courses but not able to decide. Will part time MBA be a good option? Lot of people say that part time don't have much value.
Dr. Amit Kapoor: I would not agree with the assertion that Part Time programs don't add value. Part Time MBA programs have similar level of rigour as the regular programs. The only difference is the format wherein the classes are offered in the evenings.
Gaurav Dubey: What is level of Entrance exam in MDI part time, as I am planning to give the test this year.
Dr. Amit Kapoor: The examination is rigorous and is of a similar level to that of CAT. The selection would be based on a written test conducted on MDI Campus, Gurgaon. Successful candidates will be called for Interview to MDI Campus, Gurgaon. The Post Graduate Program in Management (Part-time) is offered twice a year (viz. April and October).
Ragini: What is the CAT cut off percentile at MDI?
Dr. Amit Kapoor: For the full time MBA program the CAT scores have been around 97.5 percentile.
Rahul: I am in the final year of B. Tech and want to change my line. I want to work in the stock markets instead of working in the IT industry. Please advise me how I could get there.
Dr. Amit Kapoor: You would have two options if you wish to pursue career in the area of finance; 1. Do an MBA with specialization in finance or 2. Go for CFA.
Hansraj: What is the fee for the full time 2 yr MBA program at MDI?
Dr. Amit Kapoor: The fee for full time MBA program is roughly around INR 18, 00,000.
Hansraj: Do you offer any scholarships?
Dr. Amit Kapoor: MDI does offer support to deserving candidates.
Aakash Aggarwal: What should be the minimum percentage obtained in board exams and graduation?
Dr. Amit Kapoor: First division is what you should aspire for. The competition is fairly stiff to get into MDI.
Hansraj: How much chance will a student from Commerce background have? I have heard MBA classes are dominated by engineers.
Dr. Amit Kapoor: MBA classes are certainly dominated by engineers though students with commerce background bring in a fresh and different perspective. Students from various backgrounds have an equal and fair chance of making it to any business school.
