TISSNET was a paper pencil based test till 2012. From 2013 onwards, TISS introduced the computer based pattern of the exam. Till TISNET 2013, the paper was divided in 2 parts. Part 1 was common for all test takers which contained 50 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs). Part 2 contained questions based on the course he/she was applying for. This was either descriptive or objective based on the course. For e.g. for Social Service course, the questions were subjective and that of HR, the questions were objective in nature.

However, in TISSNET 2013, there was a common question paper for all the courses and the similar trend will be followed in the TISSNET 2014 exam as well. The total number of questions was 100 and the sections were 4, Social Sensitivity, Knowledge on Contemporary issues, Analytical Ability, and Logical Reasoning.

The above question will give you an idea on the type of questions to expect in the TISSNET 2014 exam. The difficulty level of this section was easy to moderate. For a candidate who is aspiring to study MA in Social Work or HRM and is regularly in touch with newspaper, the section might appear easy. Others may find the questions on the tougher side.

TISSNET 2014 Cutoff

The TISSNET 2014 cutoff marks will be decided by TISS Mumbai after the TISSNET 2014 exam is over. It is expected that the cutoff marks will be similar to TISSNET 2013. As per the experts the TISSNET 2013 cutoff was 85 or above.

Preparation Tips for TISSNET 2014

According to the experts, the TISSNET difficulty level is among the lowest compared to the MBA entrance exams. Hence, you will not have to spend much effort separately on the TISSNET 2014 preparation. However, if you have not taken CAT 2013, IIFT 2013 or other MBA entrance exams, then you may take exclusive preparation for the admission test of TISS.

In order to crack the Quantitative Ability, Data Interpretation and Language sections, referring to your Class IX or Class X books for Mathematics would suffice. As far as the General Awareness section is concerned, going by the daily news paper, magazines and the yearbooks of reputed publications will fit your bill.

As you have seen, the Quantitative Ability section consists of questions mainly on Arithmetic so a basic preparation would be fine. The Data Interpretation questions are not calculation intensive at all. As per IMS Learning’s analysis of TISSNET 2014, “The DI questions required no solving. One could just look at the simple graph and answer all questions.”

The Verbal Ability section asks questions on Reading Comprehension and vocabulary. Read the tried and tested books for vocabulary preparation such as ‘Word Power Made Easy’ by Norman Lewis, Barron’s Word List etc. The Reading Comprehension questions will require no extra effort to solve as well given the length and the question types.
